[ Orange-Fire | Pertinax | Fire Tribe Outskirts ]

The day was...decent compared to most, actually. It was still quite hot, but not as bothersome and not near as blazing as it had usually been, and it was a relief to Pertinax. Her paws were spared as she stepped forward, flicking her bobtail once she saw some mice scuttling around.

"Psych, doll?" She asked, turning towards the tom with a smile.

There was that feeling again. A thump or two in her heart, and the feeling of shyness, a nervousness that wasn't the custom for her. Why did she feel like so? She didn't want to know, she honestly didn't.

So she brushed back the thought, and settled back into the scenery, "I kind of want to hunt something. Is that okay?"

While she didn't tend to ask for permission, she sometimes worried about the tom, so she just wanted to be safe. Plus, the two were alone, so it was only proper to ask.

His blue and red eyes blinked as the sun shone bright on the late autumn’s day. The warm wind ruffled his fur lightly as it brushed past, helping him cool himself in the hot weather. His whole life, he’d only had one season that had been regular with the weather, and he could barely remember anything from it since he was a kit at the time. Ever since, the winter had been warm and produced no snow, the Spring had been abnormally cold and had plenty of snow, and the Summer had been hot and dry, with so little rain, they had been drought stricken. He sighed inwardly as he thought. </i>At least it’s not as hot as it was during the summer.</i> ”Hmm?” At least he got to be out here with Pertinax. It was a nice feeling, being able to be with her, walk alongside her, He always had a warm feeling when he was in her presence. ”I don’t see why not.” he nodded as he mewed.

Pertinax grinned, "Great!" She mewed, "Alright, I'll see you in a bit~" She gave him a quick lick on the cheek before bounding off towards where she had seen the mice scutter, dissapearing into the distance almost instantly. Her paws felt empty and light, and her belly rumbled for some fresh prey.

Unfortunately, she hadn't noticed the twitching of whiskers, and the empty stare from a bush nearby her original spot with Psych, as she had bounded off. If she had, perhaps things would've turned out differently.

A soft purr rumbled in his throat. ”See you in a bit” he mewed. He watched as she left, then turned his head, and tilted it up as he sniffed the air for any sort of prey that might’ve been near him that he could catch while he was there doing nothing. Nope. He’d scented no prey that wasn’t in the direction that Pertinax had taken, but he had scented a bit of fox, just barely a whiff of it though. The wind was blowing in the opposite direction, so he couldn’t tell how far or close it was, or whether or not it was recent or not, and the scent was so short lived, he had assumed that the fox was probably long gone. A mistake he would regret for years to come.

She found it, finally. It was thin, but not near as thin as the others, and she hoped that if caught, she could share with Psych. It smelled simply delicious.

With food on her mind and saliva pooling in her mouth, she lifted her rear and dropped, waiting for the perfect time to pounce.

Meanwhile, the fox was scampering out of the bush, sniffing in the air for a scent. The scent. Cat.

It reared it's head to the side, to see the cream-and-black feline. Breathing heavily, it cocked it's head to the side as if thinking of what move it should pull next. How it should go.

Snap!

It's jaws landed right next to Psych's tail, missing it by an inch. Confused, the fox made a low growling noise, angered by the fact that it had missed.

His head turned around as he heard a rustling noise. His eyes widening as a fox jumped out at him. He barely had time to react as it came closer. His movements were quick, and he just barely got his tail out of the way of the foxes snapping jaws. Shit. his mind raced as he looked at the growling fox. He let out a hiss in return, but knew there was no way he’d win this fight. His paws began to tremble as he looked at the fox. Blood pulsed through his body, and fear showed in his eyes. He was still an adolescent, even a full grown cat would have trouble with a fox. A full grown cat. ”NAX” he called out hoping she’d heard. His heart raced as he looked at the fox, hoping that he’d be prepared enough to get out of the way next time it jumped.

One...two...

"NAX!"

The yell echoed, a shrill cry for help, scaring the small rodent and sending it fleeing.

And then she recognised the voice.

"Psych!"

After getting over the initial shock, the silver she-cat bolted in the opposite direction, chasing the sound desperately. Her heart beat fast, and her head pounded every time her paws hit the ground.

'Hurry, hurry!' She urged herself.

And then she arrived.

The large predator was growling lowly, slowly cornering her tribemate. He was scared, it was obvious, and she had to admit, she was too... This wasn't something that happened everyday, and she never thought she would've had to fight off a fox. A fox of all animals!

Without much thought, she lunged, biting into the thick skin of the fox. It didn't do much, but it definitely took it's attention away from her friend.

She was easily thrown off it's back, and managed to catch herself instead of tumbling into a tree. "Psych, run!" She yelled, barely dodging a vicious swipe from the fox as she did so.

Shit. He was being cornered. How was he going to escape? There was no way. His eyes were wide with fear as the fox closed in on him. Shit, shit, shit, shit, shit. Out of the corner of his eyes, he saw Pertinax reappear, then she jumped at the fox, taking its attention away from him. His heart pounded as he watched the fox throw her off. ”Psych, run!” He nodded, his body shaking, and turned to run away from her and the fox. They needed help. He needed to find somebody that would help them. ”Help!” He called out as he ran in no particular direction, sprinting across the ground, hoping that someone had heard him. He skid to a halt, spraying dust, as he spotted a brown tabby. Thank the spirits he’d found someone so quick.  ”There’s a fox… my tribemate… she needs help.” he spat out, breathing hard in between words. He didn’t wait for any kind of response from the Green-Water, and ran back towards where Pertinax and the fox were, ”This way!” Hopefully they could get back in time before she got injured.

The apprentice was off before she could blink an eye. She watched him go, relief flooding her brain, short-lived and quickly interrupted by a sudden, blinding pain. She screeched, her scream of pain sharply cut off when another swipe was aimed, this time across her right eye.

'Oh, heavens...' She thought, collapsing to the ground. No, no, she had to get up.

Blood trickled down her right shoulder, and something else..not as thick as blood should be, also fell down her cheek. She was struggling to get up, her energy already wiped, but the need, the drive to protect herself, somehow helped her stand.

She took a weak lunge at one of the fox's legs, causing it to stumble. However...this only made it angrier.

She was regretting that moments hesitation earlier, watching Psych leave. If she would've continued on she would be fine, she wouldn't be down, still a victim.

She dodged another swipe, miraculously, barely. She thought she was bleeding again, maybe, but...man, why was she so weak?

'How could I ever protect my tribe if I can't fend off one lousy fox?'

He really hadn't meant to venture this far, he had been roaming absentmindedly, his mind back in Water Tribe even as his body headed for the Fire Tribe camp. He chuckled as he realized that this was where he was headed, and shook his head, trying to focus on where he was putting how paws against the dry earth. I guess talking to Nax would be nice, Spirits know I need it. he thought idly and picked up his pace, suddenly feeling some kind of urgency to see his best friend press on him, as if time was quickly slipping away.

He went to take another step when a sound reached his striped ears and he started, looking sharply at a young Blue-Green fire as he stammered something about someone needing help before pelting away again. Without a second thought his long legs were stretching to catch up with the tom cat, his mind racing as he tried to understand what was going on. Don't worry about what, focus on the now. His mind snarled at him and he drew even with the Fire Triber. Before he knew it they were rounding a larger rock and he could see the danger.

Fox!

For a split second his eyes fixated on a mound of fur, lying crumpled by the russet creature's paws before returning his emerald gaze back on the true threat. you have the element of surprise! Get him! Attack now! His father's voice raged at him and with a snarl he flung himself at the fox, claws extended and reaching for it's hunger glazed eyes.

His red and blue eyes looked at the heap of fur on the ground, noticing the large amount of blood that covered Pertinax’s face. Horror filled his gaze and he paused for a moment as the Green-Water attacked the fox. His terror filled eyes turned. Rage began to bubble in his belly. Pure hatred blazed in his eyes. The sight of her current condition had made him mad as hell. He looked at the fox as the Green-Water attacked it. A furious howl erupted from his mouth as he lunged towards the fox, his Blue-Green tattoo lighting up as he shielded himself from any blows the fox could have harmed him with, and his claws tried raking through the thick fur to get to the skin, but failing to do some. Dammit.

She could barely see. Her right eye was...the feeling couldn't be described in any other way besides painful and mushy... Her other was nearly closed, and she was still struggling to keep that one up.

And then someone arrived...then two...they were...attacking the fox?

'I-Is that...?  Levi? Ps..ych?' She coughed, and tried to stand. She needed to, her friends could get hurt... She had to help...

And she was down again, her attempt failing horribly.

Meanwhile, the predator was stumbling, confused. It had thought it was winning, beating the small she-cat, but now two other felines were pouncing on it, biting into it's skin.

With a growl, it shook off the smaller one easily, and chomped it's jaws towards the Water-triber, barely missing his ear.

<Green-Water || Leviathan || FT Outskirts>

Out of the corner of his eye he saw the Blue-Green Fire start his own attacks on the fox, but Levi didn't have time to focus on him, not when a single slip of concentration could result in death. You can't die, you have to get home! his mind screamed and he reared back as the creature snapped ivory fangs towards his face, close enough that he could hear the resounding click! of teeth even after he'd managed to get far enough away that he wouldn't be attacked again.

His eyes scanned the place in a split second and before he really knew what he had planned, he was racing forward, a savage snarl ripping through his chest, face illuminated brightly as he reached out for water, if he could just distract the beast--

He felt a kind of tug and then his tattoo deactivated when he encountered none of the element which he usually controlled with such ease. The draught! he remembered, but he couldn't stop his assault now, so with a quick change of plans he bunched up his muscles and, with a clumsy leap, went to score his claws down the animal's rough and dusty coat, hoping in the moment where the fox would focus upon the attack, either the adolescent would jump in and help, or find a way to help his Tribemate to safety. Both would be fantastic at that point.

{ Blue/Green-Fire\\Psych\\Fire Tribe Outskirts }

Dammit Why couldn’t he do anything? His shield was practically useless because of his size in comparison to the fox. He staggered back as the fox shook him off. Why am I so useless? He looked back towards Pertinax, looking as the blood pooled around her, then looked back towards the Water-Triber as he fought the fox. She needed help, but he couldn’t leave the Water-Triber to fight the fox by himself. Either decision he’d make could cost the life of either of the two cats around him, and if he fought, there was also no guarantee that he would make it out alive himself. His eyes blazed as he looked at the fox. No. No one was going to die today. They’d just have to fight the fox and hope that it give up and leaves without much more fighting. His leaped back on the other side of the fox, raking his claws through the creature’s clumpy fur. Dammit.

Dizzy...very dizzy...

She couldn't stand straight. Her legs ached. She struggled to watch her rescuers but couldn't make sense of anything happening. The right side of her face ached with an emptiness that haunted her more than anything else.

The fox was being bombarded, the swiftness and bite of the cats taking a toll. It tried to roll the smallest off, growling as it made steps away, as if it were trying to leave.

The brown one was latched onto a layer of skin, and the predator swiped at him, hoping to get him off, and injure the smaller animal.

As he desperately clung to the thrashing fox, he had a moment to silently thank the Spirits as he saw the Blue-Green-Fire stupidly launch himself back into he fray, braving injury in order to protect his Tribemate. But the flash of regret was brief as the animal jerked and fire seared his muzzle, long black claws making purchase against his vulnerable face. Another lucky strike as the fox clawed him from it's back, making his eyes water smartly. With a gasp of pain he tumbled to the ground, grunting from the impact.

Quickly he flipped back onto his paws, dazed, yet not too badly hurt from what he could tell and braced himself for another offensive attack, but the fox seemed to retreating, snapping and growling in frustration as the young Fire-Triber drove in with his own attacks. With not even a quick glance at the injured cat he rushed forward, his eyes glaring viciously. They would win this battle, the tribes had already lost enough and he would not allow another.

"It's giving up! Make it run!" He shouted to his ally, already moving forward with claws aimed at glazed black eyes.

He tried hanging on tightly, but was unable to and let out an ”omf” as he was rolled off and fell on his side. He got back up and went back on the attack, then had a moment of panic as the fox gave a blow to the Green-Water, making him flinch inwardly as he delivered another one. His attacks were on the opposite side, hoping to keep its attention in the brief moment the Green-Water was down. As the Green-Water got back on the offensive, the fox seemed to be about to give up in a second. We’re winning. His strikes became harder, a large amount of energy in his white tipped paws as he realized this, and the Green-Water had said it. Thank the spirits this fight was almost over. He had no idea of the extent of the damage the fox had done to her, but she wasn’t able to stand, it seemed, and that couldn’t possible be good. His paws shifted and he was side by side fighting against the fox.

And she was down for good, trying not to pass out. While she lay immobile, the fox was still trying to scamper away, kept behind by the continuous attacks by the two cats.

With a growl it slashed at Psych's ear, delivering a good sized nick, and gave a low rumble in attempts to intimidate the felines.

Before much else could happen, the fox was slipping away, back into the bushes it arrived from, ready to hide again.

<Green-Water || Leviathan || FT Outskirts>

Rage bubbled up inside of him as the fox lashed out at the young Fire Triber, and lethal claws dug rivets into dry soil as he sped forward for a final attack. He could see that the animal was growing tired of a fight it would not win in its weakened state, especially when Levi had drawn strength from his last reserves, instincts screaming at him to protect those who were younger, a drive he hadn't felt before, but he didn't have tie to ponder on this fact now. Instead he let himself get carried away in the ferocity of his attacks, driving monster back assuming his companion fought beside him somewhere.

Finally he leapt back and glared after the fox, breath coming in uneven spurts as he tried to calm himself. "It's giving up! Let it go!" He called after the adolescent, surprising himself at the level of restraint he was showing, even as his father raved at Levi to finish the brute, as he turned and focused on the downed Fire Triber who seemed to be just pile of fur now.  When his emerald gaze fell on the silver tabby fur and familiar short tail, his heart dropped to his paws, his mouth suddenly tasting like the sand he was standing on.

No no no no nonononononono No! How had he not noticed before? How could he have walked right past without even realizing who it was, if he'd had known, if he would have seen sooner he would have driven the fox away sooner! No. No. No. Spirits no.

"P-P-Pertin-nax?" He stammered and suddenly his shocked body was moving, stepping up to his best friend and nosing her limp body, ignoring the blood that smeared across his face and her fur as he tried to figure out what all was wrong. His stomach churned as he looked at her face, fear causing bile to rise in the back of his throat. Please... please don't be dead. He said in his mind and nudged her gently, shuddering as he looked at her shredded face, noting the eye injury there.

She had had the most lively eyes... No! He couldn't focus on that now, she wasn't dead-he could feel her uneasy breathing-and his heart resumed it's normal rhythm-if not a bit on the shaky side. With a gentleness he'd only shown around Lyra, the tom softly rasped his tongue across her fur, cleaning up some of the blood there so he could see the damage more clearly, but, more crimson ran over her muzzle and finally he looked over his shoulder, ferocity shining sharply in his gaze.

"Blue-Green Fire, I need to get her to Light Tribe to be healed. Go tell the Silver and Yellow Fire of what happened and you can meet us there." He snapped, voice harsher than intended before turning back to the she-cat who was his sister in everything but blood, the gentleness returning. "Come on, Stumpy, let's get your sorry ass fixed up." He attempted to tease her in his usual manner, but the words wavered and he worried on his bottom lip with his canines.

{ Blue/Green-Fire\\Psych\\Fire Tribe Outskirts }

His breathing was heavy as he fought, and he begun to get exhausted. It’s over, surely this fox isn’t going to- A quick and piercing screech came out his mouth as a searing pain went through his ear. ”Damn it” Blood began sliding down the left side of his face, tinting his fur into a shade of red, similar to his eye colour. He jumped back as the Green-Water spoke. Thank the spirits. He was beat, and wouldn’t be capable of fighting much more.

His breaths were coming in gasps, and his ear burned with pain, but he wasn’t thinking about it for the time being. His blue and red eyes looked back over to where Pertinax was lying. Her silver fur soaked in fur as her body lay limp on the ground. He came up from behind the Water-Tribe. His eyes glazed with fear as he looked at her. His thoughts were running, and he barely registered that the Water-Triber seemed to have known her. He watched as her flanks rose slightly, barely and uneasily. Shit the thought ran bitterly worried and sad through his mind. She needed a healer, and fast. Immediately after he had the thought, the Green-Water had snapped at him. He was too worried to even think about being snapped at, and had begun sprinting towards the Fire-Tribe camp. He needed to get his father or Kintsu as quick as possible, and get her to a healer.
